Animals Adapt

We have been busy learning about animals in winter. We've learned that some animals hibernate, some migrate and others adapt.

This week we focussed on adaptions: some animals grow thicker fur, some animals gather extra food and some animals store extra fat. We explored why blubber helps animals stay warm in frigid temperatures. For this activity, we set out a bowl full of snowy water and had them describe the temperature of the water by putting one hand in the water and one hand in the blubber glove.

The conclusion was that the blubber glove kept our hand protected from the snowy, cold water.
